Where It All Began

Our Story

It Started With One Very Wet Night in Scotland

Relive Campers didn’t begin with a business plan. It began on a very wet, very windy night on Scotland’s North Coast 500.

We were camping, the weather had turned, and everything was cold, wet and uncomfortable. Then we spotted a VW campervan nearby. While we were battling the elements, they were inside — warm, dry and able to enjoy the trip whatever the weather was doing outside.

That was the moment.

We realised there had to be a better way to travel, explore and spend time away.

So We Built Our Own

Not long after, we bought a van and decided to convert it ourselves.

We learned by doing it — researching products, figuring out what worked, finding out what didn’t and building a camper that suited the way we actually wanted to use it.

There was no grand plan to create Relive Campers at that point. We simply wanted to build a van we could get away in and enjoy.

But one van led to another.

Friends and family started asking us to help with their vans. More people began getting in touch. The projects became bigger, the knowledge grew, and what started as something we did for ourselves gradually turned into something much more.

From One Van to Relive Campers

Today, Relive Campers operates from our workshop in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, helping customers create and improve vans of their own.

We carry out complete conversions, pop-top installations and individual upgrades, while also supplying parts, accessories and specialist equipment for customers building their own vans.

We’ve also grown into a specialist parts supplier, with a strong focus on VW products alongside equipment from established brands across the camper and conversion industry.

But the way we approach things hasn’t really changed.

We still look at products and conversions from the same perspective we had when we built that first van: would we be happy fitting it, using it and relying on it ourselves?

That first-hand experience matters.

We don’t just sell products from a catalogue. We fit them, work with them and understand how they come together as part of a complete conversion.

And because we started by doing it ourselves, we understand the DIY side too — the questions, the decisions and the occasional headache that comes with building your own van.

Built Around What You Want

There isn’t one correct way to build a camper.

Some customers come to us for a complete conversion. Some want us to handle the specialist work and finish the rest themselves. Others simply need the right part and some straightforward advice.

That’s exactly how we think it should be.

Your Van. Your Plans. Our Experience.

“We both caught the camper van bug straight away. It’s the best of both worlds with the flexibility to go wherever you want but with much-needed home comforts. It’s also the perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors with our rescue Patterland, Hopsin, who loves being king of the road!”

How It’s Going

By the time Aron completed the third restoration on our own camper vans and numerous projects for other people along with brilliant feedback from customers, we decided the time was right to take the plunge and go into the camper van business full time.

The conversion and restoration sides of Relive Campers work perfectly together. Getting positive feedback and seeing the delighted look on people’s faces is priceless and gives us both incredible job satisfaction. We are particularly keen to give customers flexibility and different options – whether that’s buying a fully restored vehicle or a project, or on the conversion side a new kitchen or upholstery, a face lift, a pop top or a full fit out – whatever suits their budget.

Relive Campers has now totally taken over our lives and does not leave much time for our previous interests (Aron was semi-professional boxer and a keen violinist whilst Steph combines her legal work with clay pigeon shooting). We do however try and get out on the road in our own camper van as much as we can – otherwise Hopsin (our Patterland) would be impossible to live with – although he does enjoy his day to day role as Site Manager greeting customers as they arrive at our site in Cossall.

We have put our heart and soul into this business and our plan is to continue to expand and find creative ways to convert and restore camper vans into our customers’ dreams.

We look forward to welcoming you to be part of our continued journey and share our passion for the camper van ‘joy revolution’.
